AI’s hardest questions are about value, power, culture, futures, and whose lives get to shape what technology becomes. The Inclusive AI Summer School is for PhDs, Postdocs, and other researchers and practitioners across the cultural and creative industries, tech industry, government, civic sector, and beyond who are already grappling with these questions in their work and are ready to do so beyond the boundaries of their own fields. We deploy slow conferencing — less a talking shop, and more a space to encounter real-world cases, test ideas against lived realities, and work alongside people who see the problem differently. Grounded in our signature Inclusive AI Lab approach, we bring North–South and South–South perspectives into genuine exchange, put theory into contact with practice, drop the jargon, and push against the dominant AI doom-gloom mindset by taking hope-oriented positions towards our shared global futures. Participants will not simply discuss what is wrong with AI; they will collectively explore how to make AI ours by sharing innovative applications, novel policy and regulatory approaches, best practices, and humane ways of being with AI to benefit people and the planet. The promise is simple but ambitious: leave your silos, stay with complexity, engage honestly and openly with difference, and become part of a global community with an appetite to cement inclusion as common sense.
